The gala is sanctioned by Africa Aquatics and will be used as a qualifier event for future world events
A group of up to 40 Kenyan swimmers are preparing to compete in the Uganda Swimming Federation National Masters Swimming Championships scheduled for 24 August at the Wave Fitness Harbor in Kampala, Uganda.
The Kenyan team, led by coach Nasser Motha, is currently holding its training, and is expected to face tough competition from the hosts, and other neighboring countries yet to be confirmed.
The championship, which follows one organized by Kenya Aquatics in March this year, will not only offer a competitive challenge but also give room for corporate relationships, and regional camaraderie.
"Kenya has truly embraced master swimming, which is fantastic for maintaining engagement and healthy lifestyles,” the experienced Motha said. “These master galas are more than competitions; they are platforms for social interaction and global networking. I've formed lifelong friendships worldwide through master swimming. We're proud to field a team to represent Kenya.”
Tony Kasujja, Vice President of the Uganda Swimming Federation, on the other hand expressed his excitement for the event in an interview saying: "We are thrilled to welcome our Kenyan counterparts to compete here in Uganda.
“Our participation in the inaugural Kenya Aquatics National Masters Swimming Championship in March showed us the impressive progress Kenya has made in its masters program. We are working hard to ensure a large turnout and have secured numerous sponsors and partners, including Genesis Sports Limited from Kenya, to support this event," he added.
In addition, the gala has been sanctioned by Africa Aquatics, and will serve as a qualifier for future World Aquatics events.
This comes at a time when Kenya Aquatics has submitted interest to hosting an exclusive Africa Aquatics Masters Swimming Championship in the coming year.
The proposal was made in May, during a Bureau meeting at the XVI Africa Aquatics Swimming and Open Water Championships in Luanda, Angola.
